For the fourth week in a row, Bo Nix is unlikely to win Offensive Rookie of the Week, but he is prepared to exchange that honor for a victory.
Although Nix didn’t have a particularly outstanding game, he did create a remarkable play during Monday night’s Denver Broncos’ 41-32 victory over the Cleveland Browns.
After three weeks in a row of impressive performances that earned him the league’s Offensive Rookie of the Week award, the rookie quarterback returned to earth against the Browns.
With 18 of 35 passes completed, Nix gained 294 yards, one touchdown, and two interceptions. Nix hadn’t thrown two interceptions in a game since Week 2, and the picks were the first time he had done so in four games. Nevertheless, the Broncos (8-5) prevailed, maintaining their position as the AFC’s seventh seed as they continue to push for a postseason berth.
Despite letting Cleveland quarterback Jameis Winston throw for 497 yards and four touchdowns during the game, the Broncos prevailed. But the Broncos returned two picks for touchdowns and intercepted Winston three times. Additionally, the Broncos lost 28–17 before coming back to win.
How it occurs is irrelevant. After the game, Nix told reporters, “We just make the next play.” Don’t get down, and keep going. We have to find a method to score when we are behind by a point, and we succeeded. After then, our defense [said], We must figure out how to stop them, and they succeeded. Only a whole team effort. It was pleasing to observe.
Nix will never forget his lone touchdown pass.
Nix fired what may have been his best pass of the season, a thread-the-needle dime to wide receiver Marvin Mims at the 45 on a third-and-11 play from their own 7. Mims quickly ran into the end zone for a 93-yard score after the ball just escaped Cleveland safety Denzel Ward’s diving attempt.

We were attempting to attack and take the first down. I just had to get it out there, Marvin, with his pace. “He split the field really well, and their guy couldn’t get to it,” Nix remarked. I heard the audience going a little crazy. It was enjoyable, but it’s one of those fantastic plays that you don’t see very often.
The Broncos are having a great time controlling their own fate as they try to qualify for the playoffs for the first time since 2015. Preseason projections of the Broncos in this situation at this stage of the season were scant, if they existed at all. According to Nix, the Broncos are becoming more assured as they approach their bye week.
Nix told reporters, “We’re a confident bunch right now.” Our game is aggressive. Together, we are playing. We’re playing with a chip on our shoulder and a little bit of confidence. [We are] merely attempting to keep demonstrating to ourselves and to everyone that we have a very strong football team. We’re becoming more like it. It’s crucial to play with that confidence. It’s satisfying to watch us triumph in matches like these.
