No. 1 Oregon football will face Penn State in Big Ten championship game

The Big Ten football championship game opponent for the Oregon Ducks has been determined.

The conference title matchup between No. 1 Oregon and No. 4 Penn State will take place at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis on Saturday.

The Ducks (12-0, 9-0 Big Ten) defeated rival Washington on Saturday to complete their regular-season schedule, and then secured their berth in the Big Ten championship game with a victory against Wisconsin on November 16.

On Saturday, Penn State (11-1, 8-1) easily defeated Maryland 44-7 to secure a berth in the conference final. Despite not playing each other this season, Penn State has the tiebreaker lead over the Hoosiers, but No. 10 Indiana may tie the Nittany Lions with a victory against Purdue on Saturday.

Ohio State (10-2, 8-2) had a chance to secure a berth in the Big Ten championship game going into Saturday, but the Buckeyes lost to rival Michigan 13-10.

A first-round bye and an automatic bid for the 12-team College Football Playoff are awarded to the winner of the Big Ten championship game. Oregon would almost certainly keep its top ranking and be sent to the Rose Bowl to meet the winner of the first-round contest between the No. 8 and No. 9 seeds if it were to win the conference title.

The Big Ten championship game, which is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m. PT on Saturday, will be exclusively covered by The Oregonian/OregonLive in Indianapolis.
