Dr. Lucy Ojode, a renowned lecturer at Texas Southern University (TSU), will not be on campus as the Fall 2024 semester draws to a close. Additionally, she won’t be there in the spring of 2025. However, she did not miss the Tiger Walk out of carelessness.
Not at all.
Ojode is a distinguished Fulbright Scholar who teaches in the Department of Business Administration at the TSU Jesse H. Jones School of Business. Approximately 800 American professionals and scholars are sent to about 130 countries annually through the Fulbright U.S. Scholar Program.
Ojode is currently mentoring businesspeople pursuing their Executive MBA in Rwanda by sharing her business knowledge.

The African continent is home to several nations regarded as some of the most active in terms of their present and future economic possibilities, despite the area’s historically unfavorable image. Only thirty years ago, one of the most horrifying genocides in history occurred in Rwanda. The country in Central Africa is now regarded as having one of the best democracies and stable economies in the world, while social scientists believe that American democracy is in danger of collapsing.
Ojode has never had a greater opportunity to showcase her skills overseas.
Ojode, who is commemorating her 20th anniversary as a TSU professor this year, expressed her excitement at the chance to establish links between TSU-trained entrepreneurs and the expanding markets in Africa.
Since 2004, the adventure has been amazing. It has always been a pleasure to be a member of this academic community, and I have loved my classes, students, and colleagues.
Over 400,000 gifted and successful students, academics, educators, artists, and professionals from a variety of backgrounds have had the chance to study, teach, and carry out research overseas since 1946 thanks to the Fulbright Program. Fulbrighters collaborate, create interpersonal relationships, and tackle difficult global issues. Notable Fulbright recipients include 41 presidents of state or government, 89 Pulitzer Prize winners, 80 MacArthur Fellows, 62 Nobel Laureates, and thousands of leaders in the public, business, and nonprofit sectors.
It has been said that Ojode’s acceptance as a Fulbright Scholar highlights her devotion to promoting global understanding and academic success. Ojode, who is presently in Rwanda, is a part of a larger Fulbright Scholars initiative to contribute significantly to communities both domestically and overseas by enhancing their home institutions and their host institutions with their knowledge and perspectives.
Ojode’s TSU family also recognizes the importance of her Fulbright award.
According to TSU President Jim Crawford, Texas Southern University is a proud partner of the Fulbright Program.
Furthermore, why wouldn’t TSU be pleased? The university also receives recognition when a scholar is accepted into the Fulbright Scholar program.
In appreciation of our assistance to Fulbright exchange participants and our promotion of Fulbright program possibilities on campus, the U.S. Department of State has recognized the University as a Fulbright HBCU Institutional Leader for four years running, Crawford said. Crawford, who values the chance one of his faculty members has to bring attention to TSU’s excellence on a global scale, said the presence and contributions of those visiting academics and our international students over the years add to TSU’s culturally diverse environment in many ways.
With this great distinction, we are thrilled to introduce Dr. Ojode to the world. We anticipate that when she returns from Rwanda, she will produce and disseminate new knowledge.
More than 1,700 fellowships are given out each year to college and university academics, administrators, researchers, artists, and professionals through the Fulbright Scholar Program, one of the most prominent academic exchange programs in the world. In addition to offering scholars the chance to develop their abilities, widen their global networks, and acquire priceless international insights, this program promotes cross-cultural cooperation.
The Fulbright Scholar program, which operates in more than 3,500 countries, helps participants improve both personally and professionally and builds a global network of successful alumni who are leaders and educators around the world.
