The two orphaned river otter pups who were rescued earlier this summer were released into the wild over the weekend after spending some time in two different wildlife hospitals throughout the state.
The two female baby otters initially gained attention in June when a state park ranger discovered them in a roadside ditch at The Cove Palisades State Park, exhausted and thirsty. After being saved, they were taken to Think Wild, a wildlife hospital in Bend, and then northwest to Astoria’s Wildlife Center of the North Coast.
