Watch: Former Oregon Ducks’ star takes blame for the Las Vegas Raiders’ loss to Kansas City

After a game, it’s usually not good news when someone brings up an offensive lineman. After Friday’s 19–17 loss to Kansas City, Jackson Powers-Johnson was thrust into the harsh post-game limelight.

With 15 seconds left in the game, the Raiders were poised to try a field goal that could have won the game at the Kansas City 32, but Powers-Johnson snapped the football when quarterback Aidan O. Connell wasn’t prepared, and Kansas City recovered the fumble.

After the Raiders overcame a 16-3 deficit to take the lead in the fourth quarter, their amazing comeback was spoiled by the lost fumble.

Powers-Johnson accepted responsibility for the disastrous snap.

After the game, Powers-Johnson told reporters, “I came up short, not us.” (Stuff) is my responsibility.

O Connell was clapping his fists and yelling for an early snap while averting his eyes as the rookie and former Oregon Ducks standout was chastised for it. Guard Dylan Parham also signaled to snap the football by tapping Powers-Johnson on the shoulder. The ball was snapped by Powers-Johnson, struck O Connell in the shoulder, and fell to the ground. Nick Bolton, a linebacker for Kansas City, landed on the football.

O Connell claimed that he was to blame for the error.

I was entirely to blame. O Connell told reporters following the game, “I started clapping for Jackson to snap the ball while I was looking out to my right to make sure the receivers were completely set.” Jackson followed his instructions to the letter. I gave a premature clap. Really, I am the only one at fault.

It will be painful for the Raiders (2-10) to lose a game they should have won against their fiercest AFC West opponents for the eighth time in a row.
