San Francisco 49ers’ star reveals he’s been playing through fractured ankle

Throughout the season, the San Francisco 49ers have been severely impacted by injuries. Even though he is still playing, another player added himself to the list.

Fred Warner, an All-Pro linebacker, disclosed that he has been playing for weeks despite having an ankle fracture. Warner said that during San Francisco’s 30–13 victory over the New England Patriots in Week 4, he broke the bone in his ankle. Warner missed the remainder of the game due to the fracture that happened during the first half.

On Tuesday, Warner told reporters, “I deal with it every game.” Just to be able to roll, I get on that table before every game and have it shot up. It’s not an excuse, though. It’s simply the way it is. The NFL is that. You won’t be in good health. You must go out there and figure out how to perform, play at a high level, and win each and every week.

Warner has played in every practice for the last seven weeks and hasn’t missed a game since the injury. Following the injury, he was unable to participate fully in practice during Week 5.

Warner’s performance on the field has not been impacted by the injury. With 84 total tackles (50 solo), he leads the 49ers and is headed to become San Francisco’s top tackler for the eighth straight season. Warner has a good chance of recording over 100 tackles for the seventh straight season. In addition, Warner recorded two quarterback hits, three tackles for loss, six passes defended, four forced fumbles, and two interceptions.

Warner stated that he intends to participate in Sunday night’s 49ers game against the Buffalo Bills, but the bone won’t heal until after the season.

“If you just keep playing on a fractured bone, it’s usually not going to be able to heal itself,” Warner told reporters. So, you just have to keep fighting through it.
