Oregon football vs. Washington preview: One final test for the Ducks ahead of postseason play

The No. 1 Oregon Ducks enter Saturday’s rivalry game against Washington with a spot in the Big Ten title game already guaranteed, and one last task to complete before a possibly historic postseason starts. Oregon wants to remain unbeaten and carry a surge of enthusiasm into the conference championship game, while the Huskies and Ducks are both coming off a bye week.

In front of the anticipated boisterous crowd at Autzen Stadium for the regular season finale, Washington would be overjoyed to provide the one blemish on Oregon’s record. The Ducks’ performance will be the focus of national attention as a possible rematch with Ohio State approaches.

One game at a time, though.

Oregon uniform combination: gray pants, silver/chrome helmets, and black jerseys

What’s at stake: Lanning’s first victory over Washington during his time as head coach of the Ducks, and Oregon’s pursuit of just the second 12-0 regular season in team history (2010). In the meanwhile, Washington wants to surprise its opponents and improve its standing before the bowl selection process.

Washington defense versus Oregon attack

Two weeks earlier in Madison, the Oregon attack was mainly ineffective against Wisconsin, and the Ducks narrowly prevailed 16–13. In any case, it wasn’t up to the Ducks’ standards, especially against a strong pass defense and without star wide receiver Tez Johnson, who is probably going to make a comeback against the Huskies.

It won’t be simple, but Dillon Gabriel and company would prefer to beat the Huskies in order to boost their confidence before the Big Ten title game. They will be up against a Washington defense that is fifth in the country in passing yards allowed (160.5), 75th in rushing yards allowed (152.3), and 27th in points allowed per game (20.45).

But look at what Iowa did to this Huskies squad on October 12: they scored 40 points with only 108 passing yards and 220 running yards. For Iowa, Kaleb Johnson had 166 of them and two touchdowns on 21 carries.

Set up the run with Jordan James, let Gabriel and maybe Johnson find their places, and then rely on your defense to continue its current play to pull away.

Washington offense versus Oregon defense

Speaking of the Oregon defense, with 15.73 points per game, they are currently ranked eighth in the country. The defense is what makes this Ducks team great, despite the excitement Gabriel and his many weapons have added to the offense this season.

Oregon is probably more focused on itself than any one player on the opposing team, but the Ducks will need to prepare for two quarterbacks and have plenty of wide receiver talent for those players to pass to.

The possible return of Jordan Burch for Oregon would help up Washington’s sack average, which is little over two per game. Matayo Uiagalelei would be happy to contribute to it as well during the rising star’s career year.

In terms of throwing yards allowed per game, Oregon is ranked seventh (1608.8), and former Washington cornerback Jabbar Muhammad would be thrilled to intercept this one. Even while it has the competitive elements of a rivalry game for the majority of the evening, forcing turnovers might blow the game wide for Oregon as well.

“I hope our fans are eager to make an impact,” stated Dan Lanning. We will like playing this game. undoubtedly a talented and exceptionally well-coached team. Although I have had the chance to disagree with Coach Fisch in the past, I have a great deal of respect for him and his work, and I believe that he consistently leads his team to success. With this group here, I believe you can see that.

Key stat: With 57 pass breakups this season, Oregon is tied for first place in the country.

Oregon 41, Washington 17 is the prediction.
