The Transportation Security Administration predicts that this Thanksgiving weekend will be the busiest air travel weekend in American history.
According to a news statement issued by the TSA on Nov. 26, about 18.3 million individuals are anticipated to pass through checkpoints between Tuesday and Monday of next week. Compared to the extended Thanksgiving weekend last year, that would represent a 6% rise.
In a news statement, Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas stated, “I urge travelers to make plans in advance, adhere to TSA’s travel guidelines, and utilize programs like TSA PreCheck. These easy steps will make everyone’s journey easier, our skies safer, and TSA’s job easier.”
According to the organization, TSA anticipates screening over 3 million travelers on December 1. Traditionally, the busiest day of the year for air travel is the Sunday following Thanksgiving.
According to TSA, the top 10 days for aviation travel in its history have all happened in 2024. For the first time ever, almost 3 million travelers passed through TSA checkpoints in a single day on July 7, the Sunday after Independence Day, setting a new record.
TSA Administrator David Pekoskes stated, “We expect that trend to continue.” The Transportation Security Administration is prepared to handle record passenger volumes as Thanksgiving draws near.
Certain classic Thanksgiving mainstays, such as gravy, cranberry sauce, wine, jam, and preserves, are considered liquids and gels and cannot be carried in carry-on luggage if their weight exceeds 3.4 ounces, according to TSA officials.
