On Tuesday, search crews returned to Mount Hood National Forest in an attempt to locate a hiker, age 61, and her two Malinois-mix dogs.
The Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office reports that Susan Lane-Fournier, better known as Phoenix, was reported missing last week after she did not show up for work.
A massive search was launched after her white 1992 Ford F-250 was discovered parked on East Salmon River Road on Saturday. More than 100 miles of path have been combed so far by volunteers, deputies, and K9 teams.
The Salmon-Huckleberry Wilderness, a secluded region of the national forest characterized by its steep canyons and rough terrain covering more than 62,000 acres, includes the Green Canyon Way Trail, which runs close to where her truck was discovered.
Sgt. Ross Clemson of the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office stated that drones will join the search, and four teams were already on the ground Tuesday morning.
According to the description, Lane-Fournier weighs 150 pounds, 5 feet 2 inches tall, and has reddish-brown hair. Police claim she is familiar with the area, but it’s unclear if she was ready for the circumstances overnight. Temperatures have dropped into the 30s, and the weather has been rainy and cold.
