Pete Carroll rumored as a head coach candidate for the New York Jets

Would Pete Carroll bite into the Big Apple once more?

The former head coach of the Seattle Seahawks has been floated as a possible contender for the New York Jets’ head coaching job. In October, Woody Johnson, the owner of the Jets, fired Robert Saleh, appointed Jeff Ulbrich as interim coach, then fired general manager Joe Douglas last week.

Carroll wouldn’t be a long-term job, according to Zack Rosenblatt of The Athletic, but he wouldn’t be a horrible choice if the Jets’ next coach wants to create a better culture.

Rivka Brood of Jetsxfactor.com claims that Carroll’s age of 73 makes him an odd choice for a squad that is rebuilding. She also mentioned Carroll’s track record of success in the NFL and in college, noting that he is one of just three head coaches to win a Super Bowl and a national title, along with Barry Switzer and Jimmy Johnson.

Carroll’s chances of landing the job are slim, but if he did, he would be rejoining the team where he started his NFL coaching career. In 1994, he was appointed head coach of the Jets. Despite having a 6-5 record at the beginning of the season, the Jets lost their last five games, and Carroll was sacked after just one season.

After Carroll was fired by the Seahawks in January, franchise owner Jody Allen announced that he would be joining the team as an advisor. Carroll stated in August that he would be accepting a teaching position at USC, which would start in the spring, but he would not rule out coaching again.
