Miss Manners: Online retailer is tempted to leave snarky replies to customers’ ranting posts about prices

Greetings, Miss Manners Thanks to feedback from thankfully kind clients, I am able to maintain a high ranking for my online store. Maintaining the top rating is crucial since it draws customers to my store.

The selling platform also rates me on a number of factors, including my response time to messages. Usually, I can think of something kind to say to my clients. But occasionally, I get someone who just wants to vent, usually over the cost of the items in my store.

These folks must not realize that I have to purchase the items I offer, and I can only sell them at a discount when I can get them for a very fair price. Some folks want to vent their resentment on me when that doesn’t occur. I receive abusive texts asking me absurd amounts and who I believe I am.

I would just ignore them, but I have to respond if I want to maintain my top ranking. I’m inclined to respond, “No one is forcing you to buy this,” but I try to be courteous. You are free to purchase elsewhere if the price bothers you.

Some of these individuals want to start a battle and keep fighting, so I would prefer something firm.
