The University of Oregon received a warning letter from the Oregon Labor Bureau last month, stating that the university may be breaking state law due to student workers’ union complaints and that it must address the delays in workers receiving their first payments.
Employees in Oregon are required by law to be paid within 35 days after starting employment. According to Bureau of Labor and Industries spokesperson Rachel Mann, three student complaints claimed that the university’s payroll system delayed some new faculty and student employees’ first paychecks by as much as 49 days.
