More than a month has passed since two cousins, Brittany Payne, 32, and Yolanda Payne, 47, were tragically killed in a hit-and-run crash on Chicago’s West Side. Their family is frustrated by the lack of progress in the investigation and is urging the Chicago Police Department to prioritize the case.
The incident occurred on July 28 in East Garfield Park when a speeding SUV crashed into the car carrying the victims and a third cousin, who survived but sustained serious injuries. Despite the SUV being abandoned at the scene, no arrests have been made, and the family is desperate for answers.
Adrianna Payne, the sister of Brittany, and Sonji Payne, their mother, are struggling to cope with the loss while caring for Brittany’s three children. “Brittany’s birthday is coming up on September 29th, and she’s not going to be here to celebrate,” said Adrianna.
The family is appealing to the community for help in finding the person responsible. They are also questioning why the police have not provided more information, especially regarding whether the SUV was stolen. “I want them to look deeper into this investigation,” said Sonji, expressing frustration with the lack of updates.
