Urgent Appeal for Illinois Shelter Animals After Facility Closure

Recently, 41 animals from a southern Illinois shelter were rescued by PAWS Chicago after their facility unexpectedly closed. These animals, already in need of forever homes, are now receiving emergency care.

According to Fox 32 Chicago, PAWS Chicago currently has 64 dogs and 48 cats awaiting adoption. This crisis highlights a larger issue in Illinois, where animal abandonment rates are alarming.

Chicago, for example, has the highest density of dogs in the U.S., with 22 dogs for every 100 people. Nationally, The Zebra reports that over 6.5 million pets are abandoned each year, but only 3.2 million find homes.
