Road Rage Leads to Gunfire in Sandy SUSPECT ARRESTED, NO CRITICAL INJURIES Reported

SANDY, Utah – Sandy police arrested a guy after he allegedly shot a gun at another car in what they are calling a road rage incident on Sunday night, August 25.

Tony Larod Robinson, 33, was arrested on one count of third-degree felony aggravated assault. He also faces two misdemeanor charges: reckless endangerment and unauthorized discharge of a handgun.

The Sandy Police Department spokesperson told ABC4.com that the incident occurred at 8 p.m. near the intersection of Harrison Street and Monroe. Robinson had a verbal dispute with another driver. During the confrontation, Ribson allegedly pulled his weapon and fired six bullets at the other driver. According to court filings, the victim attempted to drive away, but Robinson allegedly followed them.

“Robinson continued to fire his gun through his front windshield as [the victim[attempted to flee from the shots being fired,” said court records. “Both vehicles were located and found to have several bullet holes.”

Two of Robinson’s children, ages three and six, were reportedly in the car at the time. Police say the 6-year-old told officers that his “hearing hurt.” Sandy Police verified that no one was critically harmed in the shooting.

When questioned by detectives, Robinson allegedly acknowledged firing at the victim rather than in self-defense. He reportedly described the incident as a “lapse in judgment,” according to court filings.

Harrison Street was closed for several hours on Sunday night while detectives investigated the incident.

The investigation is still underway and investigators are actively working on it, according to Sandy Police. A Sandy Police Department representative informed ABC4.com that once the investigation is done, the matter would be presented to the Salt Lake County District Attorney for official charges.
