Bay Area Convicted Killer Suspected in Fatal Prison Attack

Luis Alvarez, a convicted murderer from Santa Clara County, is accused of killing another inmate at High Desert State Prison in Susanville, California.

The California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) reported that Alvarez, 30, and 41-year-old Vincent Martinez attacked and killed 29-year-old Anthony Alvarez in a dayroom on Wednesday evening. For more details on this case, visit KRON4.

Officers intervened at 5:45 p.m., stopping the attack and providing medical aid to Anthony Alvarez, who was pronounced dead at 6:23 p.m.

The suspects, both serving long sentences for violent crimes, were placed in restricted housing while an investigation is conducted by prison officials and the Lassen County District Attorney’s Office.

Officers also recovered two homemade weapons at the scene.

Anthony Alvarez was serving a 10-year sentence for attempted second-degree murder, while Martinez was serving 22 years for similar charges.
