Last month, the widow of a Vancouver police officer who was shot and killed by a Clark County sheriff’s deputy while off duty filed a complaint against the county and the deputy in federal court, claiming that the deputy used excessive force and was negligent.
On January 29, 2022, shortly after arriving at Officer Donald Sahota’s Battle Ground residence, where an armed robbery suspect had escaped, Deputy Jonathan Feller opened fire on Sahota. Hemistook Sahota was identified by Feller as the robbery suspect. He was hit in the back by four rounds of gunfire from a semi-automatic weapon. Four seconds after reaching the house, he opened fire.
