Oregon State women win their third straight, blasts Loyola Marymount

A second-half rally Thursday night helped Oregon State defeat Loyola Marymount 66-49, matching its best winning streak of the 2024–25 women’s basketball season.

The Beavers outscored the Lions 40-23 in the second half to win their third straight game. OSU pulled away with a 17-2 third-quarter run led by six points apiece from AJ Marotte and Ally Schimel.

The Beavers were led by 16 points by Marotte and 13 points from Schimel, who made 5 of 5 shots. Kelsey Rees finished with eight rebounds and twelve points.

OSU outscored the Lions 38-28 and shot 50% (27 of 54).

For the first time this season, Oregon State (12-13, 8-6 WCC) has won consecutive games by double digits.

With six games left, the Beavers’ victory put them in fourth place in the West Coast Conference. The Beavers will advance to the quarterfinals of the WCC tournament in Las Vegas if they finish fourth or better.

Brandi Williams led Loyola Marymount (9-12, 3-10), scoring 19 points.

At halftime, the score was knotted at 26–26. Throughout the first quarter, the teams traded leads, but OSU came on strong in the closing minutes to win 16–15. The sides failed to score in the last 2:42 of the second quarter, and Sela Heide’s layup tied the score at 26-26.

When Oregon State started to rally early in the third quarter, Loyola Marymount temporarily held a 30-26 lead. Schimel made two three-pointers during a 17-2 run that was started by two free throws from Marotte. The Beavers led 48-35 at the end of the third quarter.

In the fourth quarter, Oregon State did not falter. With 1:39 left, the Beavers had their biggest lead of the game after a 14–4 run after LMU had momentarily cut the advantage to 10.

At 2:00 p.m., Oregon State will play San Diego in the last of their two-game road trip.
