Portland police tactical teams responding to man with machete in Old Town

Police say a guy is threatening people with a machete in Portland’s Old Town district, prompting tactical units to arrive on Wednesday night.

The Crisis Negotiation Team and Special Emergency Reaction Team have been summoned by Portland police to the 600 block of Northwest Naito Parkway, which is located immediately north of the Steel Bridge. A number of sidewalks and pathways are blocked, and all traffic is prohibited from using the parkway.

A scanner log indicates that more than 30 police units are present.

Local residents are being urged by the police to lock their doors and remain indoors. The suspect has been taken into custody, and officers are speaking with him. There isn’t any more information available right now.

A police confrontation was sparked last week when a guy took over a TriMet bus and refused to get off, firing bullets close to the Steel Bridge.
