Providence, nurses reach tentative deal to end strike after 4 weeks

In the midst of a 26-day strike, nurses at eight Providence hospitals signed a tentative contract agreement with the administrators of the health system late Tuesday.

The agreement includes roughly 5,000 Providence nurses who started the biggest health care strike in Oregon history on January 10 by walking off the job. The 70 hospitalist doctors on strike at Providence St. Vincent Medical Center are not covered.
