In separate cases, two Multnomah County Sheriff’s officers who attempted to conceal their inability to perform required jail rounds were given probationary sentences. In both cases, a prisoner under their supervision passed away.
Michael Mersereau and James Brauckmiller were forced to leave the sheriff’s office and will serve a six-month probationary period under a judge’s supervision. Separately, Brauckmiller has to give up his state law enforcement license.
