China counters with tariffs on US products. It will also investigate Google

Beijing (AP) In addition to other trade-related actions, such as a probe into Google, China’s Ministry of Commerce stated on Tuesday that it will be enacting counter-tariffs against the United States on a number of products.

The government announced that it would impose a 10% tariff on crude oil, farm equipment, and large displacement vehicles, as well as a 15% duty on coal and liquefied natural gas products.

According to the statement, the US’s unilateral duty rise is a grave violation of WTO regulations. In addition to being ineffective in resolving its own issues, it undermines regular trade and economic cooperation between the US and China.

Although President Donald Trump intended to speak with Chinese President Xi Jinping in the coming days, the 10% tax he slapped on China was scheduled to take effect on Tuesday.

On Tuesday, China’s State Administration for Market Regulation announced that it is looking into Google for possible antitrust violations. The statement was made minutes before Trump’s 10% tariffs were set to go into effect, even though it made no mention of tariffs.
