Motel owner gunned down in Depoe Bay; man arrested after fleeing police

Following a 35-mile pursuit after the suspect fled the scene of the deadly shooting of a Depoe Bay hotel owner on Thursday, police captured a guy.

According to a statement from the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office, Brennon Michael Neal, 29, of Depoe Bay, is charged with shooting and killing 44-year-old Sarabjit Singh at the Four Winds Inn, which Singh owned.

According to court documents, Neal was Singh’s employee and had expressed his anger and threat of murder to others prior to the shooting.

Around 10:17 a.m., deputies were called to the scene of the incident at 356 U.S. 101 after hearing gunshots coming from within the motel. According to sheriff’s officials, deputies arrived to discover Singh dead and the suspect gone.

An hour or so later, a Toledo police officer saw a car that fit the suspect’s description after the sheriff’s office notified other local law enforcement. Sheriff’s officials reported that the motorist fled when officers attempted to stop over the vehicle.

Before police, including Oregon State Police, were able to spike the car’s tires and take the driver into custody, the driver had eluded them for approximately thirty-five miles.

The situation is being investigated, according to officials from the sheriff’s office.

Correction: According to court documents, Brennon Michael Neal was Sarabjit Singh’s employee at the Four Winds Inn. Bruce McGuire, a spokesman for the sheriff’s office, previously stated in an email that Neal and Singh were strangers before the incident. The Oregonian is sorry for the mistake.
