Mississippi robbery suspect nabbed after getting stuck in Oregon swamp

Early on Saturday morning, a man escaping from Washington County sheriff’s deputies entered a Beaverton marsh, where he reportedly got stuck in mud and high water before giving himself up, according to authorities.

According to the sheriff’s office, deputies attempted to stop a 2017 Audi Q7 for an unidentified traffic infraction at around 2:30 a.m. on Saturday as it was traveling through a neighborhood just north of Nike’s campus.

The sheriff’s office claims that the driver did not stop and eventually made his way out of the Audi on foot. As the suspect fled, deputies reported seeing him with a revolver.

Deputies discovered the driver carrying a sizable quantity of cash after he finally gave up in the swamp. The sheriff’s office shared a picture of ten piles of cash, each topped with a $100 bill, but they would not specify how much he carried.

The individual was identified by investigators as Lamarcus Thomas, age 31, and they said they discovered he had an active warrant for armed robbery in Mississippi.

Deputies reported that after checking the area, their police dog, Blitz, found a gun, but they did not find a firearm on Thomas. The gun contained a 30-round magazine, according to the sheriff’s office.

Thomas was taken to the Washington County Jail by authorities, where he was charged with multiple offenses pertaining to the incident that occurred on Saturday morning. These allegations include reckless driving, driving while intoxicated, trying to avoid a police officer, and possessing a firearm while a felon.
