Tests of Bull Run water find cryptosporidium parasite; no public health risk for most people

In the Bull Run watershed, Oregon’s largest drinking water supply, the Portland Water Bureau is still finding cryptosporidium, a potentially harmful bacteria.

As 2025 gets underway, the city has been detecting the parasite in its source water for eight years, and Portland is currently working on a $2.1 billion water filtering system that just faced a regulatory setback.
