A man from Salem is charged with murder after he allegedly crashed his automobile while carrying his ex-girlfriend’s body.
Just before 6:30 a.m. on Monday, Tyler Andrew Holman, 39, lost control of his vehicle in Independence’s 10000 block of Corvallis Road, according to a statement from the Salem Police Department.
Deputies from the Polk County Sheriff’s Office located the vehicle and Holman on the rural road, and the injured driver was transported to a hospital for medical attention. According to authorities, deputies also discovered the body of a deceased woman, although the circumstances at the scene indicated that she was not killed in the vehicle accident.
Ashley Jean Gandolfi, 35, was shot and murdered, according to an autopsy conducted later that week, according to authorities.
Police claim that Holman and Gandolfi had a romantic relationship in the past.
A Salem police officer arrested Holman in March on a charge of domestic violence assault. According to Gandolfi’s probable cause affidavit, Holman had seized her and thrown her to the ground, and she was terrified to return home. In August, that case was dropped.
Holman was taken into custody by police on Thursday after being discharged from Salem Hospital. Holman was charged with tampering with evidence, second-degree murder, and corpse abuse.
According to authorities, the homicide is still being investigated.
