There were no gunshots or injuries reported during the 10-hour standoff between police and an allegedly armed man who was besieged in a house in North Portland on Wednesday night.
Wednesday’s heated exchange was the second of its type. There was a significant police presence in Old Town when a guy who fired guns commandeered a TriMet bus and then refused to get off.
In the first case, an unnamed guy was being sought by police in the St. Johns neighborhood’s 8300 block of North Hudson Street. Around eight in the morning, according to the police, he rushed into a backyard and then inside a house.
Police stated in a news release that there was cause to believe the suspect had access to firearms and that he had previously been known to be equipped with them.
Officers texted the man and spoke with him through friends and relatives. The man didn’t turn himself in until the cops poured irritant gas into the attic of the house. Police reported that he was taken into custody just after 6 p.m.
As of 7 p.m., local streets were reopening.
Earlier in the week, Portland saw two more standoffs.
After a two-hour standoff, police apprehended Joshua J. Hick, 43, without incident after responding to a burglary call at a cannabis business in the Hosford-Abernethy district of Southeast Portland early Monday morning.Five persons were taken into custody by police at a Powellhurst-Gilbert residence on Tuesday. After locking themselves inside, two of the individuals remained inside for hours.
