A guy has been caught and prosecuted after he allegedly locked himself inside a cannabis shop he had attempted to rob on Monday.
According to court documents, prosecutors claim that Joshua Hicks, 43, broke into the Portland Cannabis Market in Southeast Portland on Monday, damaged several doors, fled from the police, and then barricaded himself inside. Officers responded to the burglary report at approximately five in the morning, according to the Portland Police Bureau.
According to court documents, police apprehended Hicks after discovering him in a loft area. According to the police, he was arrested at approximately 7:40 a.m. Hicks allegedly claimed police he had swallowed drugs after being arrested and sent to a hospital for observation, but police said the assertion was false.
According to court documents, officers discovered a rucksack in the business that included burglary tools that the proprietor of the marijuana shop said weren’t his.
According to court documents, Hicks, who also goes by the moniker Dharmadas Chakravarti, is accused with two charges of burglary, criminal mischief, escape, and possession of a burglary tool or device.
At least three other instances of persons barricading themselves with reportedly armed individuals have been reported to Portland police this week.Five persons were taken into custody by police at a Powellhurst-Gilbert residence on Tuesday. After locking themselves inside, two of the individuals remained inside for hours.
A potentially armed suspect was locked inside a St. Johns residence when Portland police arrived on Wednesday. Additionally, authorities reported that a man who opened fire in Portland’s Old Town district on Wednesday started a police standoff when he took control of a TriMet bus and refused to get off.
