Man fires shots, barricades self inside TriMet bus in Old Town, police say

Just after noon on Wednesday, a man barricaded himself inside a TriMet bus after firing rounds close to Northwest Fifth Avenue and Glisan Street, according to police.

Terri Wallo Strauss, a police spokesman, stated that the suspect dropped the gun out an open window and was now alone himself inside the bus.

At least a dozen officers could be seen standing close to the back of the bus, which was halted just west of the Steel Bridge at Northwest Glisan Street and Third Avenue, according to footage obtained at the scene at roughly 1 p.m.

An cop appeared to be attempting to persuade someone to get off the bus in the video captured by an Oregonian/OregonLive photojournalist.

The voice added, “Perhaps we can convince you to visit the hospital.” What about this? I am granting you permission to open the door.

According to dispatch data, at least 20 units were there.

A representative for TriMet chose not to comment.

There will be updates on this breaking news story.
