Lamar Jackson of Baltimore, Josh Allen of Buffalo, and Jayden Daniels of Washington will not be playing in this week’s Pro Bowl Games.
None of those quarterbacks were on the final rosters that the NFL released on Tuesday. On the AFC roster, Tampa Bay’s Baker Mayfield was chosen to take Daniels’ place, Pittsburgh’s Russell Wilson is replacing Allen, and New England Patriots rookie Drake Maye is taking Jackson’s place.
While Jackson’s season ended a week earlier in the divisional round of the playoffs, Allen and Daniels also suffered conference championship losses last weekend. Jackson and Allen are seen as the MVP favorites.
There were other roster modifications as well.
James Cook, the running back for the Buffalo Bills, and Connor McGovern, the center, were also chosen as replacements.
Derrick Henry of Baltimore, who finished second in the NFL with 1,921 yards rushing, leaves Cook in his place. Cook tied Henry and Detroit’s Jahmyr Gibbs for the league lead with 1,009 yards and 16 running touchdowns.
McGovern takes Creed Humphrey’s place as center for Kansas City, who defeated Buffalo on Sunday and will now play Philadelphia in the Super Bowl on February 9.
Trey Smith of Kansas City will be replaced by Isaac Seumalo, a guard for the Pittsburgh Steelers and a former standout at Oregon State, who will make his first appearance in the Pro Bowl.
Along with Leonard Williams and Devon Witherspoon, Seattle wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba will be the third Seahawks player to leave. Smith-Njigba will take Terry McLaurin’s place in Washington.
A flag football game and skills contests are part of the Pro Bowl Games, which take place in Orlando, Florida, from Thursday through Sunday.
