President Trump approval ratings: What the latest numbers show

President Donald Trump’s approval rating is higher than his disapproval rate, about a week after his inauguration.

According to the Echelon Insights poll, 51% of participants are satisfied with Trump’s performance as president, while 43% are not. By percentage, 36% of respondents stated they highly approve, compared to 14% who say they somewhat approve. Compared to 7% who said they somewhat disapprove, 36% said they strongly disapprove of the work the second-term Republican is doing.

Trump’s approval ratings were also 10 percentage points higher than average for his handling of immigration (55 percent vs. 40 percent) and the economy (50 percent vs. 40 percent). 50% of respondents stated they approved of the president’s goals, compared to 39% who disapproved, making his handling of foreign affairs his top ranked area.

Regarding several of Trump’s more well-known and contentious policies, the ratings are lower. 54% of respondents disagreed with the idea of the United States expanding its territory, while 22% supported such ideas. Of those surveyed, 16% believed that the United States should make Canada the 51st state, while 68% disagreed.

59% of respondents opposed Trump’s renaming of the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America, while only 26% supported it.

Compared to 34% who think the practice of automatically granting citizenship to children born in the United States should be discontinued, 50% of respondents stated they also think the country should maintain its birthright citizenship policy. Compared to 37% who oppose deportation, 56% of respondents said they at least somewhat favored the expulsion of people who are illegally in the country.

In total, 52% of respondents expressed approval of the Executive Orders that Trump signed on his first day in office, while 42% expressed disapproval.
