Ray Pickering and Will Heck, recent Oregon State football assistant coaches, were awarded two-year contracts for $250,000 per season.
When Jon Boyer and Thomas Ford left the school for new positions, Pickering, who trains running backs, and Heck, who manages tight ends, were brought in to cover for them.
Pickering, a former running backs coach at Buffalo, almost tripled his $87,200 2024 salary. Heck spent the previous season at Oregon State as an offensive analyst.
Heck and Pickering have contracts that expire at the end of the 2026 football season. A $10,000 bonus if the Beavers secure a bowl berth, a car, admission to Beaver athletic events, and membership in the Corvallis Country Club are among the extra benefits included in their contract, which is typical of assistant coaching contracts at OSU.
According to athletic director Scott Barnes, Oregon State had $4.85 million set aside for assistant coaches’ salaries for the 2025 campaign. Even though OSU spent $4.42 million on compensation last year, it is comparable to what was available for the 2024 season.
