Trail Blazers earn 4th consecutive victory with win at Hornets

On Friday night against the Charlotte Hornets, the Portland Trail Blazers would have had little reason not to win four straight games for the first time this season.

At the Spectrum Center, the Blazers easily defeated a squad that was without five of their top six scorers, 102-97.

The Blazers were not helped by the Hornets that were available.

Without their best players, Brandon Miller, Miles Bridges, and LaMelo Ball, Charlotte scored six of ten three-pointers in the first quarter to take a 12-point lead.

The Blazers made five of eight long-range attempts in the second quarter, drawing to within 54-50 at the intermission.

The Blazers led 61-54 after an 11-0 start to the third quarter. Late in the quarter, however, the Hornets responded with a 16–4 run to regain their lead, 70–65.

Portland made 1 of 11 three-pointers in the fourth quarter, but the Hornets were unable to capitalize. They had a 1 out of 10 score.

With 12 points to help his team take a nine-point lead, Anfernee Simons proved to be the difference in the quarter.

Simons scored a team-high 27 points on 8 of 16 shooting, his third consecutive strong showing. Jerami Grant went 4 of 8 from three-point shooting and scored 22 points.

After missing four games due to an ankle injury, rookie center Donovan Clingan made a comeback and finished with four points, 13 rebounds, four assists, and four blocks.

Nick Smith Jr. scored 17 points to lead the Hornets, who only made 37.6% of their field goals.
