The identity of the guy who was shot dead by Salem police officers on Wednesday has been made public by the Oregon State Police.
Around 11:30 a.m., Shawn Lee Baker, 42, tried to escape from the officers near the 3200 block of River Road North when he was shot, according to a statement from the Oregon State Police.
Baker was shot by two officers who encountered him as he ran inside an apartment complex, according to the police, and he was a wanted criminal with a gun.
Following the gunshot, other officers from the Salem and Keizer police departments were on the scene right away and administered first aid, but Baker passed away, according to the police.
Chad Galusha and John Diaz, the Salem police officers implicated in the shooting, were also publicly identified by the Oregon State Police. According to authorities, no cops were hurt in the incident.
In accordance with departmental policy following a shooting, Galusha and Diaz have both been placed on administrative leave.
