Eugene wood treatment facility, its president to pay $1.5M in fines for hazardous waste violations

The president of a wood treatment plant in Eugene has agreed to pay $1.5 million in criminal fines for improperly handling hazardous waste in violation of the pollution control rules set forth in the Clean Air Act.

Georgia Baxter-Krause, 61, of Deschutes, the president of J.H. Baxter & Co. Inc., entered a guilty plea on Wednesday to two counts of making false statements in violation of the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act, a federal law that governs the management of hazardous waste, and to unlawfully treating hazardous waste.
