Federal count of homeless people in Portland area to happen this week

In Multnomah, Clackamas, and Washington counties, the point-in-time count to meet federal funding requirements for homeless programs will begin Thursday evening.

The bi-annual census has long been the sole indicator of the number of homeless persons living in shelters and unsheltered areas in any given part of the nation, and it is typically regarded as an undercount.
