The National Weather Service released an updated beach hazards statement for the Curry County and South Central Oregon coasts at 2:07 p.m. on Monday, which will be in force until 4 p.m.
Per the weather service, there is “a moderate risk of sneaker waves.”
“On beaches, including over rocks and jetties, shark waves can go up much farther than usual. These waves have the power to take people off their feet and drag them swiftly into the chilly ocean waters, which can cause fatalities or severe injuries. The meteorological agency also notes that driftwood logs may be lifted by waves, trapping anyone caught underneath. “Avoid scaling jetties and rocks. To avoid dangerous situations, stay out of the water and away from the ocean.
