Cold weather warning in place for freezing temps on Sunday night

Following overnight lows in the mid-20s, many Portlanders awoke to icy windshields and crunchy lawns on Sunday.

That frost should melt in the light. According to the National Weather Service, Sunday will have bright skies and a high of about 45 degrees. The weather service predicts that Monday’s Martin Luther King Jr. holiday will be sunny, but there may be a chance of wind gusts of up to 20 miles per hour.

The National Weather Service predicts that this week will continue to see freezing evening temperatures.

On the west side of the Cascades, from southwest Washington south to Cottage Grove, the agency has issued a chilly weather advisory for the night.

The National Weather Service warns that between 10 p.m. Sunday and 10 a.m. Monday, temperatures might feel as low as 25 degrees. In the coverage area, it advises Oregonians to cover any exposed skin and to keep pets indoors as much as possible.
