The National Weather Service issued a beach hazards statement for Oregon’s Central Coast, Clatsop County Coast, and Tillamook County Coast on Saturday at 12:43 p.m., which will remain in force until Monday at 6 a.m.
According to the weather service, “Sneaker waves possible.”
“On a beach, particularly over rocks and jetties, waves might go up much farther than usual. According to the weather agency, sneaker waves have the potential to knock people off their feet and drag them into the icy ocean, where they could suffer severe injuries or drown. “Kids and pets should be kept close to the surf zone. Avoid the logs, rocks, and jetties close to the surf area. Do not swim in after someone who has been swept into the sea. Make a 911 call and wait for assistance to arrive.
