Portland sees a cloudy Wednesday morning, clearing by afternoon; high 40

Wednesday’s early temperatures are a few degrees above freezing due to low clouds that are still present over the metro area.

The National Weather Service has issued an advisory through 10 a.m. Thursday regarding air stagnation, which is only a few miles south of the metro area.

On days with poor air quality, residents of Albany, Corvallis, Eugene, and other cities in the middle and southern Willamette Valley should exercise caution if they have respiratory issues. Air quality will occasionally deteriorate due to light winds and restricted air movements.

Parts of the valleys from around West Linn to south of Salem were in the moderate category, according to an air quality monitoring conducted Wednesday at 5:30 a.m. Visit airnow.gov to check the quality of your air.

Because of the mixing winds that come from the Columbia River Gorge, the air in Portland is often fine. The weather on Wednesday begins gloomy and then gradually clears up to be largely sunny. The temperature will rise to almost a cold 40 degrees.

The sky will be generally overcast on Thursday, although it will warm up to around 44 degrees.

There may be some frost early on Friday morning due to clearing overnight. The daytime high temperature in Portland is expected to be around 44 degrees, with largely sunny skies.

This weekend could see frigid mornings due to clear sky and colder air heading south from Canada. As of right now, forecasts indicate a 40% likelihood of temperatures below 30 degrees on Friday morning and an 85% or higher possibility of temperatures below 30 on Saturday through Tuesday of next week. There is a 70% possibility that Saturday through Monday morning temperatures will drop below 25 degrees in outlying locations. There is barely a 10–40% possibility of encountering temperatures that low in urban areas. Disconnect the hoses from the outdoor bibs and cover those exterior faucets.
