Quarterback for Oregon StateThe 6-foot senior Gevani McCoy is leaving the Northwest to transfer to Texas State.
McCoy, who played for Oregon State in 2024 after spending three years at Idaho, declared on Monday that he will continue to play at the FBS level by joining the Bobcats.
Texas State won the First Responder Bowl on January 3 with an 8-5 record. The Bobcats, who are 4-3 this season, are members of the Sun Belt Conference. With senior starter Jordan McCloud nearing the end of his eligibility, Texas State was looking for a quarterback.
During the first eight games of OSU’s 2024 season, McCoy started nine of them. Last season, McCoy ran for 325 yards and five touchdowns and tossed for 1,300 yards and three touchdowns.
OSU won three of its four games thanks in large part to McCoy’s excellent start. However, he struggled for the next four games after suffering a shoulder injury against Colorado State. In the second quarter of the October 26 game against California, McCoy was finally benched. On November 16, McCoy began and participated in the first half of the match against Air Force.
Since the season concluded, three quarterbacks have left Oregon State, including McCoy. Ben Gulbranson chose not to return to school after five years, and McCoy and walk-on Dom Montiel entered the transfer portal.
