On Monday, Providence Health & Services in Oregon went on the attack, accusing striking doctors of breaking federal labor law and announcing that it was prepared to resume negotiations with striking nurses at six of its facilities.
Beginning early last Friday, over 150 physicians and advanced practitioners, together with nearly 5,000 Providence nurses, went on indefinite leave. Now on its fourth day, the walkout is the biggest among Oregon’s healthcare workers and impacts the state’s eight Providence hospitals as well as the health system’s chain of six women’s clinics in the Portland metro area.
