The National Weather Service released an updated beach hazards statement for the Curry County and South Central Oregon coasts on Monday at 9:24 a.m., which will remain in force until Tuesday at 10 p.m.
As stated by the weather service, “A moderate risk of sneaker waves is expected.”
“On beaches, including over rocks and jetties, shark waves can go up much farther than usual. These waves have the power to take people off their feet and drag them swiftly into the chilly ocean waters, which can cause fatalities or severe injuries. According to the weather service, waves can also lift driftwood logs, trapping anyone stuck underneath. “Avoid scaling jetties and rocks. To avoid dangerous situations, stay out of the water and away from the ocean.
