Bryce Boettcher announces return for one more season with Oregon football

Even though Bryce Boettcher had his final day in both baseball and football, he is still with the Oregon Ducks.

On Tuesday night, Boettcher made the announcement that he will be returning for one more season of collegiate football. The Ducks seem to have been successful in their pursuit of an NCAA waiver that would allow the linebacker to participate in his fourth and final year of football.

The Eugene product only played three seasons for the football team, starting with his sophomore year in 2022, while playing four seasons of baseball for Oregon and being selected by the Houston Astros in the 13th round of the 2024 MLB draft.

Leading the Ducks with 94 total tackles this season, Boettcher also recorded two sacks, four pass breakups, one interception, and a forced fumble. He was awarded the Burlsworth Trophy, which is given to the best collegiate football player in the country who started out as a walk-on.

The Ducks should find that Boettcher’s emotional leadership is essential as they prepare for the 2025 football season. Although sources suggest that Boettcher may also join the Astros minor league system during this football winter, his future plans on the baseball diamond are still unknown.
