Chicago Sky Reportedly Considering Trading Dana Evans Before WNBA Deadline

The Chicago Sky are thinking about making a significant trade before next month’s WNBA trade deadline. They are considering trading guard Dana Evans, making her available to other teams.

The Chicago Sun-Times says the Sky see Evans as their most valuable trade asset. Even after benching the 25-year-old earlier this season, the team has continued to perform well, suggesting they can manage without her. Chennedy Carter has stepped up as a standout player in the backcourt.

Evans finished third in the Sixth Player of the Year voting in 2023, averaging 9 points per game. However, after starting 12 games in 2024, head coach Teresa Weatherspoon moved her back to a bench role. While Evans has had shooting inconsistencies, she offers strong playmaking and defensive skills. Teams needing backcourt help might be interested in her.

In return, the Sky might seek a sharpshooting wing player to improve their offense, which has made the fewest 3-pointers in the WNBA this season.

The Sky’s strengths and weaknesses match preseason expectations for their work-in-progress roster. They excel in offensive rebounding, thanks to Angel Reese and Kamilla Cardoso, but struggle with ball handling. Weatherspoon’s team ranks third-worst in assists, second-worst in field goal percentage, and worst in free-throw percentage.

When drafting Cardoso and Reese in the first round of the 2024 WNBA Draft, general manager Jeff Pagliocca focused on building a strong defensive, inside-out identity under Weatherspoon. He believed the team could address their offensive issues later.
