Readers respond: No more massive corporate tax breaks

Soon, our Oregon Legislature will meet. I hope that no further significant tax breaks are passed. These clues have been revealed by The Oregonian/OregonLive for years. More than $225 million in yearly tax incentives for some of the wealthiest firms in the world was the most recent thing I read and was upset about (Soaring data center electricity demand could spark Northwest blackouts, industry sources worry, Dec. 11). These are not tax benefits for manufacturing enterprises with large workforces, but rather for data centers. They use a lot of electricity, therefore my rate will increase. Why, given that my taxes have increased and that these giveaways have caused services throughout the state to deteriorate for years? Why?
