Oregon running back Ellis Bynum, former Central Catholic star, enters transfer portal

Ellis Bynum, a former Central Catholic star, has declared that he is going through the transfer portal after two years with the Oregon Ducks.

Bynum announced the news on social media on Friday afternoon.

Bynum has primarily contributed as a member of the Ducks special teams over the last two years, while being labeled as a running back.

According to 247Sports, Bynum was a three-star prospect in high school. In his final season, he was Central Catholic’s main back and helped the Rams win the Class 6A state championship in 2021.

In the fall of 2021, he was selected to the second team of the Mount Hood Conference. Bynum scored two touchdowns and had 13 carries for 88 yards in the Rams’ victory over Tualatin in the state championship game.

Bynum is the son of Janelle Bynum, the newly elected congresswoman from Oregon, who took office on Friday. She is the first Black congresswoman from Oregon.

In November, Bynum defeated Lori Chavez-DeRemer in the congressional contest.It was one of the most costly and highly watched House campaigns in the nation, and the victory moved a contested House seat from Republican to Democratic control.
