Portland’s brief workweek will conclude with rain on Friday morning and afternoon showers.
More dramatic weather is occurring in the Columbia River Gorge, according to the National Weather Service. Snow and freezing rain are expected to persist into Friday, with strong winds expected over the more exposed areas of the western gorge.
The eastern portions of the metro region will occasionally experience wind gusts of 30 to 40 mph, while Portland experiences another day of rain and a high temperature of roughly 51 degrees on Friday.
Through Saturday morning, a cold pool of trapped air will mix with moisture from the west, bringing periods of freezing rain and snow to Skamania County’s Hood River Valley and low valleys.
Early Friday and potentially throughout the afternoon, there will be a combination of rain, freezing rain, and snowfall in the northern Oregon Cascades, which includes U.S. 26 over Mount Hood. Typically, snow levels will be higher than 5,500 feet.
After a mainly rainy Saturday in Portland, the weekend appears to have some promise of drying up a little. There will still be periods of high wind, with gusts of up to 20 mph. The temperature will rise to about fifty degrees.
With cumulative snowfall from Friday morning to Saturday morning reaching 6–12 inches at pass levels and 1-2 feet above 6,000 feet, precipitation is expected to continue across the Cascades on Saturday.
Rain showers are expected to persist in Portland on Sunday morning before fading off in the afternoon. The sky will remain largely overcast. It is anticipated that the high temperature will approach 52 degrees.
A weak ridge is expected to move across the Pacific Northwest by Sunday evening and into the early half of next week, according to forecast models. Clearer sky and a respite from the rain, which is predicted to continue at least through Tuesday, should result from this. The low 50s will be the high temperature.
