Rockford Gears Up for Exciting High School Football Season Opener

Although the high school football season is still a few weeks away, it’s already a hot topic among local fans, players, and coaches. The Illinois High School Association (IHSA) has released the complete schedules for all schools in Illinois, generating excitement and anticipation for the upcoming games.

For the Rockford area teams, the opening weekend schedule is set and promises an exciting start to the season. In the NIC-10 conference, games will primarily take place on Friday, August 30, with one exception. East will face Jefferson on Thursday, August 29. Other notable matchups include Harlem visiting Belvidere, Belvidere North taking on Guilford, Boylan traveling to Freeport, and Auburn going up against Hononegah.

The Big Northern Conference also has a full slate of games on Friday, August 30. Key matchups include Byron at Rock Falls, Stillman Valley at Dixon, Rockford Christian at Genoa-Kingston, Oregon at North Boone, and Rockford Lutheran at Winnebago. Fans can look forward to seeing how these teams perform in their season openers.

In the NUIC conference, most games will be held on Friday, August 30, except for Dakota, who will face Dwight/Gardner Co-Op on Saturday, August 31 at 1 p.m. Highlights for Friday include Forreston traveling to Fulton, EPC at Galena, Lena-Winslow at Morrison, and Du-Pec at Stockton.

Additional area games scheduled for Friday, August 30 include Woodstock at Rochelle, Sycamore at DeKalb, Harvard at Lisle, and Evergreen Park at Marengo. These matchups are sure to bring plenty of excitement and competition to the local high school football scene.

The 8-man football teams will also kick off their season on Friday, August 30, with the exception of two Saturday games. AFC will play at Milledgeville, River Ridge at West Carroll, Hiawatha at Rockford Christian Life, and South Beloit at Polo. On Saturday, August 31, Cambridge Ridgewood Co-Op will face Amboy and Alden-Hebron will take on Orangeville at 1 p.m.
