Editorial cartoons for Dec. 29, 2024: Here comes the New Year

It was a sluggish week for editorial cartoons because of the holiday. This week’s gallery is led by David Horsey, who believes that 2025 will be a deja vu year. As a result, Father Time (wearing a MAGA hat) returns rather than the customary New Year’s baby.

Dana Summers, on the other hand, believes that President Joe Biden is father time and that President-elect Donald Trump will be the baby of 2025.

Steve Breen, Drew Sheneman, Michael Ramirez, and Joey Weatherford all mentioned the enigmatic drones that were troubling the skies and interfering with Santa Claus as Christmas came and passed.

Elon Musk, a tech entrepreneur, returns to serve as the president-elect’s adviser. Walt Handelsman refers to Musk’s meddling in congressional budget talks as “chaotic,” a scent of the future. Uncle Sam of Mike Luckovich makes a fruitless attempt to get Musk back to South Africa.

The release of the House ethics investigation into former Representative Matt Gaetz’s issues with women and drugs, Trump’s ambition to seize control of the Panama Canal and Greenland, the antiquated federal tax system symbolized by a floppy disk (do you remember those? ), Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s waning hold on power, the California governorship as a consolation prize for losing presidential candidate Kamala Harris, and a Christmas wish for family unity are some of the other news items in this week’s gallery.

Mike Luckovich, Steve Breen, and Michael Ramirez of Creators Syndicate, as well as Jack Ohman, Nick Anderson, Bill Bramhall, Dana Summers, Drew Sheneman, Scott Stantis, Walt Handelsman, David Horsey, Phil Hands, Joel Pett, and Joey Weatherford of Tribune Content Agency, drew the cartoons.
